Who are We?
The New Testament declares the good news that Jesus died on the cross for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, and that He rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). First Baptist Church Walnut Ridge are baptized believers in Jesus Christ who seek to follow His commands. Jesus shared with His disciples the foremost commandment—to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love our neighbors as we do ourselves (Mark 12:28-34). Jesus also gave His disciples a final command after His resurrection—to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20). We are not perfect people, but we know a perfect God who loves us and has forgiven us through the grace of His Son. We want you to join us in this lifelong journey of following Jesus by faith.
Please explore our website and visit our Facebook page to get to know a little more about our church. And come see us some time—we would love to get to know you! How Can you Begin your Journey of Faith in Jesus?
We’re glad you want to know, but first you need to know where you are without Jesus in your life. The Bible teaches us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Sin is anything you think, say, do or don’t do that dishonors God. Without Christ, you fall short of the good plan and purpose that God has for your life sometimes through both accidental mistakes and intentional disobedience. The Bible also teaches us that the punishment for our sin is death (Romans 6:23). Because each and every person has sinned, each and every person is destined to die both physically and eternally—death and hell are the consequences for our sin. But the good news is that God loved us even while we were still sinners and demonstrated His love for us by sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross in our place (Romans 5:8). God gives us the gift of eternal life through His Son Jesus Christ, but this gift must be received by faith. The Bible says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord—that means handing the reigns of your life over to Him—and that if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, then you will be saved (Romans 10:9-13). If you are ready to begin your journey of faith in Jesus, or have questions about following Jesus, please let us know!
