How Does This Church Involve Itself in Missions?
Cooperative Program Missions Giving
In partnership with thousands of other Southern Baptist Churches in Arkansas and across the world, we support one of the largest efforts in making disciples of all the nations by financial giving through the Cooperative Program. The Cooperative Program allows us to support the work of Arkansas Baptists in our state (www.absc.org), and also the spread of the gospel in our own country through the Southern Baptist Convention (www.sbc.net) and North American Mission Board (www.namb.net) and in the world through the International Mission Board (www.imb.org).
How Does it Work?
As Christians and churches we can do far more together with one another than we ever can apart from each other. When you make a monetary offering at First Baptist Church Walnut Ridge, 12% of your undesignated financial gift goes to the Arkansas Baptist State Convention office in Little Rock and then is immediately distributed to ministry work in the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, Southern Baptist Convention, North American Mission Board, and International Mission Board.
Special Missions Offerings
In addition to our regular missions giving, our church emphasizes three missions offerings throughout the year. In each of these offerings 100% of contributions go directly to support ministry and missionaries. These offerings are named in honor of three outstanding Baptist women who served the Lord and promoted the spread of the gospel in our state, nation, and world. The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering in March-April helps spread the gospel through the North American Mission Board; the Dixie Jackson Offering in September supports the work of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention; and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering in November-December funds missionaries serving through the International Mission Board. See the adjacent column to learn more about our current offering emphasis.
Lottie Moon Christmas Offering 2017
Through this offering, we partner together with other churches to support international missionaries serving with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Our offering goal this Christmas season was to send $7,200 to support missionaries, and our church responded generously. We have received over $8,200! Thank you for your giving! The Cummins Family works in conjunction with an organization called Serving Orphans Worldwide to provide care for children in Chiang Mai, Thailand. For more information about Connie's Home, you can visit http://soworldwide.org/orphanage/connies-home/.
How Do We Support Them?
In addition to giving a portion of our missions budget, our church has taken two mission teams to Thailand (2013 and 2016) to assist the Cummins in their ministry. We also pray for the Cummins family and Connie's Home on a regular basis.
Josh & Jill McCarty
The McCarty family is planting a church in Grand Junction, CO in cooperation with the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Before moving to Colorado in the summer of 2016, Josh served as the Campus Minister at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge. You can visit their website at http://rivercitychurchgj.com to find more information about this family and their mission efforts.
How Do We Support Them?
In addition to supporting these missionaries through our regular Cooperative Program gifts, our church also contributes a small financial amount each month to support this church planting endeavor. We also pray for Josh, Jill, their children, and their ministry often.
